Life of Service Ends

Mrs. Melissa E. Littell passed away in Whittier, California, Monday July 1, 1929 after an illness of over two months. It was just two months and two days since her husband, Milan D. Littell was called to his reward.
Words seem inadequate to express our feelings to those bereft of a father and mother so to devoted to life as was Mr. and Mrs. Littell.
For forty-eight years they walked side by side sharing each others burdens, and striving that their loved ones might be cared for.
She was the daughter of Robert and Charity Epps and was born in Linn County, Kansas, August 8, 1862 where she grew to womanhood. She was converted early in lofe and placed her affiliations with the United Brethern church and lived an exemplary life thereafter. Was married to Milan D. Littell October 29, 1881, and to this union were born three children, Mrs. Bessie Spencer, Mrs. Faye Phelps of Whittier, and Leslie M. Littell of Alhambra, California. She leaves also three grandchildren, Ardith and Eddith Spencer and little Richard Littell Phelps.
Her living brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Lucetta Seright of Pleasanton, Kansas, Mrs. Sarag Wayts of Hume, Missouri, Mrs. Lydia Karraker of San Diego, California, Caleb Epps of Pleasanton, Kansas, Elzy Epps of Craig, Colorado; and many other relatives and a large circle of friends.
Her life was one of service, beautiful in character and full of many virtues. During her illness she was patient and hopeful of recovery.
Funeral services were held in White and Emerson parlors on Wednesday, July 3, at 10:30 am and were conducted by Rev. Milton C. Lutz of the United Brethren church. Music was furnished by Emil A. Bingle.
Burial was in Memorial Heights Park cemetery by the side of her husband amid profusions of California's choicest flowers. All beautiful things in life come in twos and threes, dozens and hundreds, plenty of flowers and sunshine, brothers and sisters, but only one mother in all the wide world.
Our hearts ache but she has left a sweet heritage and her soul lives on. We never realize till they are gone how much we miss and how much the world needs such mothjers as the one gone out.
To those so sorely bereft there is sweet comfort of a blessed immortality - a reunion with our loved ones gone before, and the assurance that He who has promised never to leave or forsake will keep until that day.

Roy Carson Howey
Roy Carson Howey, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home. He was 83.

The funeral will be Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Albright United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Kip Wright, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home.

Born April 24, 1915 at West Mineral, Kan., he was the son of Claude and Mable Bumgardner Howey. He attended schools at Pittsburg, Kan., and graduated from high school in 1933.

On Oct. 10, 1940, he married the former Norma Lea Hofsess at Pittsburg. Prior to graduation, Roy began working in a local bakery in Pittsburg. He then joined Continental Baking Company in Wichita as route driver for Wonder Bread. In 1940 he transferred to Blackwell and moved to Ponca City in 1948 as a district supervisor. In 1957 he joined the Rainbo Bread Company and at the time of his retirement in 1978 was supervisor over the Northern Oklahoma and Southern Kansas districts. Following retirement he worked part-time at The Boat House and as a repairman for Kirby Vacuum. He enjoyed woodworking, reading western novels, and being with his grandchildren.

He joined the Chikaskia Lodge 109 AF&AM in 1946. He became a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Guthrie Scottish Rite and was also a member of the Akdar Shrine in Tulsa. Some of his most memorable times were when he rode with the Kay County TriSporter Shrine Parade Unit. He was also a member of the Eastern Star. Roy served as DeMolay advisor in Ponca City from 1961 to 1967. Howey was active in the Jaycee's in Blackwell and was named "Jaycee of the Year" in 1946. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for eight years in Blackwell.

His wife of 48 years died May 8, 1984.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Lynda Howey of Ponca City, and Richard and Iris Massie of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Gene Warner of Ponca City, and Sue and Larry Cramton of Marlow; grandchildren and their spouses, Darryl and Susie Howey, DeWayne and Marcie Howey, Frank and Shelly August, Nicolle Helton, Gidget Warner, Lester and Gina Cramton, and David and Heidi Cramton; and great-grandchildren, Krysten, Kara, and Koryn Howey, Allyson Howey, Zachary August, Cierra Helton, Michael, Brittany, Carl Lance, and Mollea Cramton. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, a grandson, and a niece.

Casket bearers will be Darryl Howey, DeWayne Howey, Lester Cramton, David Cramton, Michael Cramton, and Chad Edwards.
